The beauty of flowers

Evening beauties

Decorating the front step

"Adorn yourself with eminence and dignity; and clothe yourself with honor and majesty." Job 40:10

We haven't had closure on a project since finishing the raised bed. It was time for closure again.

Hence, decorating the newly finished front steps.

Rather than sand, we chose ground cover to fill the gaps. Sand was too messy.

We decided to fill the space on the front porch with a large pot.




My neighbor suggested using a ground cover called wooley thyme (aka: elfin thyme). In her yard it grows in the sun, in the shade, in the dirt, and in their gravel driveway. It seems to be virtually indestructible! Eventually, it will grow together and fill all the gaps. At one inch high, it lets off an oregano aroma when crushed. The little purple flowers are so cute!

[Correction 1/12/08: Wooley thyme & elfin thyme are not the same, but we did plant both between the rocks.]

This planter was fun to fill. Draping down the front is Myrtle - Bowles variety. On either side of it is Coral Bells - Caramel on the right and Color Dream on the left. Way in the back is Liriope - Marc Anthony. But the crowning jewel is the Cypress - Cyano-viridis. I loved this tree from the get-go. It's one of those plants you just have to touch. It's so soft and just beckons to be scrunched!

OK. Now on to the other and definitely larger part of the patio. But that can wait until tomorrow!

You Inspire Me

Just playing around with the photo software on my computer. This photo was cropped, tinted, highlighted, low-lighted, and whatever else I could think of.

Let me explain the verse I chose. It made me think of the different types of blogs I visit.

Simple Beauty

"And out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight..." Genesis 2:9a
This little beauty pops up everywhere I go. I see it often as I'm driving around town. One day I thought, "When we get to the point of planting flowers, I'd like to have this one in my garden."

However, it was under my nose the entire time! As I was walking our plot of land last week, I found it tucked underneath a pine tree - in full bloom!! I quickly ran up to the house for my camera. The peach-colored blooms are stunning against the green foliage.

Beauty is most often found in the simplest forms, I think. Wouldn't you agree?

Dripping with dew

"The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding He established the heavens. By His knowledge the deeps were broken up, and the skies drip with dew." Proverbs 3:19-20
These little flowers poked their heads up several weeks ago which means that spring is just around the corner!! There is a lot of moisture in the air, as you can see on the flowers. In fact, this picture was taken just after noon.

Being from an area of the US where there a four very distinct seasons, having flowers in February is a new experience. I have not investigated this flower, yet, so I'm not sure what it's called. When I got close enough to take this picture, I realized it's in full bloom with its head bowed. Even the flowers praise Him continually!

Watch for more homesteading posts. Rumor has it that Hubby is going to start cutting down trees along our west property line to make room for gardens and a greenhouse. Changes are in the works!!
